Hamsaz Ensemble Live in Concert

This concert featured the North American premier of music recently discovered in the middle east. The “Persian Music Through History” program, begins the story during the Timurid dynasty (1370–1506) where no prior records of written music was thought tho have existed. The small collection of written music is credit to Abd al-Qadir Maraghi, who is thought to have been one of the court minstrels of the Jalayirid Sultan al-Husayn in the late 1300’s. Additionally, more songs were discovered in eastern Europe due to preservation efforts of two individuls Dimitrie Cantemir (1673–1723) and Ali Ufki which is roughly from the Safavid Dynasty. Of course more recent standarts of Persian music were not left out, including contemporary compositions of Ali Samadpour. This program was comprised of 31 pieces, nine of which had choreographed movement and all songs were accompanied by visual projections. The ensemble members: Ali Samadpour, Bahar Movahed, Aida Meftahi, Shahin Shahbazi, Sina Dehghani, Babak Daneshvar and Bobak Salehi.
