I’m going to be hanging up the music hat to rejoin the “real world”. The following is my attempted progressive-alternative-metal “Islamo-Baha’i” “masterpiece”, recorded from 2003-2006, titled “Lost in the Midst of a Persian Firing Squad”. I never finished it, of course, so I just compiled the demos of the best tracks into a semi-consistent sequence. There aren’t a lot of vocals, but the theme centers around Islamic mysticism, personal autonomy, and the Babi/Bayani Movement in 19th century Iran, and the execution of its founder and leader, Siyyid Ali Muhammad Shirazi – The Bab (Bab = Gate).
I was really heavy into Islam and later the Baha’i Faith when I wrote and recorded this material, compounded with the fresh zeal of a new convert.
